The New England Patriots won Sunday 30-27, handing the New Orleans Saints their first loss of the season, but each team watched a significant offensive contributor exit the game early with injuries.
Wide receiver Danny Amendola, who missed three games already this season due to a groin injury, was injured on an end-around running play in the third quarter. After gaining about 7 yards, Amendola was hit helmet-to-helmet by Saints safety Rafael Bush near the sidelines. Following the hit, Amendola continued headfirst to the turf, unable to cushion his fall, and remained down on the ground being tended to by Patriots training staff. When he got to his feet, Amendola seemed disoriented and off-balance as he walked off the field.
Saints tight end Jimmy Graham left the game in the fourth quarter with a leg injury. After leaving the game and having his ankle taped, Graham returned for a few plays, before leaving the game for good. He ended the day without a catch, spending most of the game being physically hounded by Patriots cornerback Aqib Talib.
A few other Patriots players suffered injuries in the game- Jerod Mayo (shoulder), Dan Connolly (head), Aqib Talib (hip).
