A Look at the Major NFL Week 6 Injuries

The New England Patriots notched their fourth win of the season Sunday, but lost the services of two major contributors to season-ending injuries in the process.

Linebacker Jerod Mayo and running back Stevan Ridley have been ruled out for the remainder of the season, after undergoing MRIs on Monday.

Mayo, who missed the majority of last season with a torn pectoral muscle, hurt his knee in the second quarter of the Patriots win against the Buffalo Bills, and was carted off the field. The seven-year veteran was leading the team in tackles with 53, and one sack, on the season.

With limited options at linebacker after the departure of Brandon Spikes in the offseason, the Patriots will turn to Dont’a Hightower and rookie Deontae Skinner to fill Mayo’s shoes.

Ridley, who was enjoying a strong season with 340 yards rushing and two touchdowns through six games, suffered a torn ACL and MCL on a running play in the third quarter. He will be a free agent this offseason.

The Patriots running back options now consist of Shane Vereen, Brandon Bolden, rookie James White, and Jonas Gray, who is currently on the practice squad.

Wide receiver Victor Cruz, of the New York Giants, will miss the remainder of the 2014 season after suffering a torn patellar tendon against the Philadelphia Eagles Sunday night.

Cruz immediately reached for his knee after leaping for a pass in the end zone about mid-way through the third quarter. He crumpled to the ground in severe pain and could be seen sobbing as he was carted off the field.

Cruz ends his season with 23 receptions for 337 yards and a touchdown.

The New York Jets already depleted secondary took another blow Sunday, as cornerback Dee Milliner suffered a torn achilles tendon and will be out for the rest of the season.

Milliner was hurt in the first quarter as the Denver Broncos attempted a field-goal. Set up in an outside rusher position, Milliner took two steps towards the Broncos line before falling to the ground and reaching for his right ankle.

Milliner joins rookie cornerback Dexter McDougle on the IR. Cornerback Darrelle Revis signed as a free agent with the New England Patriots in the offseason.

Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Marvin Jones was placed on injured reserve Tuesday with a right ankle injury.

Jones dealt with an ankle injury early in training camp and broke his left foot just three practices into the preseason. He tweaked the ankle injury at practice before the Bengals faced the New England Patriots in Week 5.

Jones did not appear in any games this season.

Lamar Miller will have to carry a heavier load in the backfield for the Miami Dolphins moving forward, after running back Knowshon Moreno was placed on season-ending injured reserve Tuesday.

Moreno suffered a torn ACL in the Dolphins 27-24 loss to the Green Bay Packers Sunday. In the game, he had six carries for just 10 yards rushing.

Moreno totaled 148 yards on 31 carries playing in three games this season.
